Shows exactly what percentage of your benefit is clawed back through Self Assessment.
UK Tax Hero connects you with qualified tax specialists for filing, HMRC investigations, tax planning and more.
If either parent earns over £60,000 (2024/25+), a tax charge claws back Child Benefit at 1% for every £200 above £60,000. At £80,000 or more, 100% is clawed back.
If your adjusted net income exceeds £80,000, you can opt out of receiving Child Benefit to avoid the HICBC admin. However, always claim even if you opt out, as it protects your National Insurance record and pension entitlement.
