Add or remove VAT from an amount

Calculate the net amount, VAT and gross amount using the standard, reduced or zero rate.

Enter the price or transaction amount, using pounds and pence.

Does the amount include VAT?
Which VAT rate applies?

Use 5% or 0% only after checking that the goods, services and circumstances qualify.

Does special VAT treatment or rate uncertainty apply?

Choose yes for exempt or outside-scope items, reverse charge, Flat Rate Scheme, margin schemes, partial exemption, imports/exports or mixed supplies.

Your amount is used only for this calculation. It is not added to a lead record or analytics event.

What this calculator includes and excludes

It performs transaction arithmetic at 20%, 5% or 0%. Zero-rated supplies remain taxable and are not the same as exempt supplies.

It does not decide the correct liability, calculate a VAT return, test registration, estimate Flat Rate Scheme payments, recover input tax or handle special schemes and reverse charges.

How to understand your result

The calculator content must explain the result breakdown, applicable period, rounding, assumptions, exclusions and the primary sources used by its versioned tax table.
